Google Alternatives huge list restore your privacy

This guide aims to be the most exhaustive resource available for documenting alternatives to Google products.
With growing concerns over online privacy and securing personal data, more people than ever are considering alternatives to Google products.
After all, Google’s business model essentially revolves around data collection and advertisements, both of which infringe on your privacy. More data means better (targeted) ads and more revenue. The company pulled in over $116 billion in ad revenue last year alone – and that number continues to grow.
But the word is getting out. A growing number of people are seeking alternatives to Google products that respect their privacy and data.
So let’s get started.
Note: The lists below are not necessarily in rank order. Choose the best products and services based on your own unique needs.

Google search alternatives

When it comes to privacy, using Google search is not a good idea. When you use their search engine, Google is recording your IP address, search terms, user agent, and often a unique identifier, which is stored in cookies.
Here are ten alternatives to Google search:
  1. Searx – A privacy-friendly and versatile metasearch engine that’s also open source.
  2. MetaGer – An open source metasearch engine with good features, based in Germany.
  3. SwissCows – A zero-tracking private search engine based in Switzerland, hosted on secure Swiss infrastructure.
  4. Qwant – A private search engine based in France.
  5. DuckDuckGo – A private search engine based in the US.
  6. Mojeek – The only true search engine (rather than metasearch engine) that has its own crawler and index (based in the UK).
  7. YaCy – A decentralized, open source, peer-to-peer search engine.
  8. Givero – Based in Denmark, Givero offers more privacy than Google and combines search with charitable donations.
  9. Ecosia – Ecosia is based in Germany and donates a part of revenues to planting trees.
*Note: With the exception of Mojeek, all of the private search engines above are technically metasearch engines, since they source their results from other search engines, such as Bing and Google.
(Startpage is no longer recommended.)

Gmail alternatives

Gmail may be convenient and popular, but there are three major problems:
  1. Your inbox is used as a data collection tool. (Did you know Google is tracking your purchasing history from the receipts in your inbox?)
  2. Rather than seeing just emails, your email inbox is also used for ads and marketing.
  3. The contents of your inbox are being shared with Google and other random third parties.
When you remain logged in to your Gmail account, Google can easily track your activities online as you browse different websites, which may be hosting Google Analytics or Google ads (Adsense).
Here are ten alternatives to Gmail that do well in terms of privacy:
  1. Tutanota – based in Germany; very secure and private; free accounts up to 1 GB
  2. Mailfence – based in Belgium; lots of features; free accounts up to 500 MB
  3. Posteo – based in Germany; €1/mo with 14 day refund window
  4. StartMail – based in Netherlands; $5.00/mo with 7 day free trial
  5. Runbox – based in Norway; lots of storage and features; $1.66/mo with 30 day free trial
  6. Mailbox.org – based in Germany; €1/mo with 30 day free trial
  7. CounterMail – based in Sweden; $4.00/mo with 7 day free trial
  8. Kolab Now – based in Switzerland; €4.41/mo with 30 day money-back guarantee
  9. ProtonMail – based in Switzerland; free accounts up to 500 MB
  10. Thexyz – based in Canada; $1.95/mo with 30 day refund window

Chrome alternatives

Google Chrome is a popular browser, but it’s also a data collection tool – and many people are taking notice. Just a few days ago, the Washington Post asserted that “Google’s web browser has become spy software,” with 11,000 tracker cookies observed in a single week.
Here are seven alternatives for more privacy:
  1. Firefox browser – Firefox is a very customizable, open-source browser that is popular in privacy circles. There are also many different Firefox modifications and tweaks that will give you more privacy and security. (Also check out Firefox Focus, a privacy-focused version for mobile users.)
  2. Iridium – Based on open source Chromium, Iridium offers numerous privacy and security enhancements over Chrome, source code here.
  3. GNU IceCat – A fork of Firefox from the Free Software Foundation.
  4. Tor browser – A hardened and secured version of Firefox that runs on the Tor network by default. (It also does a good job against browser fingerprinting.)
  5. Ungoogled Chromium – Just as the name says, this is an open source version of Chromium that has been “ungoogled” and modified for more privacy.
  6. Brave – Brave is another Chromium-based browser that is rather popular. It blocks trackers and ads by default (except for “approved” ads that are part of the “Brave Ads” network).
  7. Waterfox – This is a fork of Firefox that is configured for more privacy by default, with Mozilla telemetry stripped out of the code.
Of course, there are other alternatives to Chrome, such as Safari (from Apple), Microsoft Internet ExploreEdge, Opera, and Vivaldi – but these also come with some privacy drawbacks.

Google Drive alternatives

If you’re looking for a secure cloud storage option, you can check out these Google Drive alternatives:
  1. Tresorit – A user-friendly cloud storage option based in Switzerland.
  2. ownCloud – An open source and self-hosted cloud platform developed in Germany.
  3. Nextcloud – Nextcloud is also an open source, self-hosted file sharing and collaboration platform, based in Germany.
  4. Sync – Based in Canada, Sync offers a secure, encrypted cloud storage solution for businesses and individuals.
  5. Syncthing – Here we have a decentralized, open source, peer-to-peer cloud storage platform.
Of course, Dropbox is another popular Google drive alternative, but it’s not the best in terms of privacy.

Google Calendar alternative

Here are some Google Calendar alternatives:
  1. Lightning Calendar is an open source calendar option developed by Mozilla, and it’s compatible with Thunderbird and Seamonkey.
  2. Etar, an open source, basic calendar option.
  3. Fruux, an open source calendar with good features and support for many operating systems.
For those wanting a combined solution for both email and calendar functionality, these providers offer that:

Google Docs / Sheets / Slides alternative

There are many solid Google Docs alternatives available. The largest offline document editing suite is, of course, Microsoft Office. As most people know, however, Microsoft is not the best company for privacy. Nonetheless, there are a few other good Google Docs alternatives:
  1. CryptPad – CryptPad is a privacy-focused alternative with strong encryption, and it’s free.
  2. Etherpad – A self-hosted collaborative online editor that’s also open source.
  3. Mailfence Documents – From the Mailfence team, this is a secure file sharing, storage, and collaboration tool.
  4. Zoho Docs – This is another good Google Docs alternative with a clean interface and good functionality, although it may not be the best for privacy.
  5. OnlyOffice – OnlyOffice feels a bit more restricted than some of the other options in terms of features.
  6. Cryptee – This is a privacy-focused platform for photo and document storage and editing. It’s open source and based in Estonia.
  7. LibreOffice (offline) – You can use LibreOffice which is free and open source.
  8. Apache OpenOffice (offline) – Another good open source office suite.

Google Photos alternative

Here are a few good Google Photos alternatives:
Shoebox was another alternative, but it closed operations in June 2019.

YouTube alternatives

Unfortunately, YouTube alternatives can really be hit or miss, with most struggling to gain popularity.
  1. Peertube
  2. DTube
  3. Bitchute
  4. invidio.us
  5. Vimeo
  6. Bit.tube
  7. Dailymotion
  8. Hooktube
Tip: Invidio.us is a great Youtube proxy that allows you to watch any Youtube video without logging in, even if the video is somehow restricted. To do this, simply replace [www.youtube.com] with [invidio.us] in the URL you want to view.

Google translate alternative

Here are a few Google translate alternatives I have come across:
  1. DeepL – DeepL is a solid Google Translate alternative that seems to give great results. Like Google Translate, DeepL allows you to post up to 5,000 characters at a time (but the pro version is unlimited). The user interface is good and there is also a built-in dictionary feature.
  2. Linguee – Linguee does not allow you to post large blocks of text like DeepL. However, Linguee will give you very accurate translations for single words or phrases, along with context examples.
  3. dict.cc – This Google Translate alternative seems to do a decent job on single-world lookups, but it also feels a bit outdated.
  4. Swisscows Translate – A good translation service supporting many languages.
If you want to translate blocks of text, check out DeepL. If you want in-depth translations for single words or phrases, then Linguee is a good choice.

Google analytics alternative

For website admins, there are many reasons to use an alternative to Google analytics. Aside from privacy concerns, there are also faster and more user-friendly alternatives that also respect your visitors’ privacy.
  1. Clicky is a great alternative to Google Analytics that truncates and anonymizes visitor IP addresses by default. It is lightweight, user-friendly, and fully compliant with GDPR regulations, while also being certified by Privacy Shield.
  2. Matomo (formerly Piwik) is an open-source analytics platform that respects the privacy of visitors by anonymizing and truncating visitor IP addresses (if enabled by the website admin). It is also certified to respect user privacy.
  3. Fathom Analytics is an open source alternative to Google Analytics that’s available on Github here. It’s minimal, fast, and lightweight.
  4. Get Insights – Another privacy-focused analytics platform, with a full analytics suite. The front-end client is open source and available here.
  5. AT Internet is a France-based analytics provider that is fully GDPR compliant, with all data stored on French servers, and a good track record going back to 1996.
Many websites host Google Analytics because they run Google Adsense campaigns. Without Google Analytics, tracking performance of these campaigns would be difficult. Nonetheless, there are still better options for privacy.

Google Maps alternative

A map alternative for PCs is OpenStreetMap.
A few Google Maps alternatives for mobile devices include:
  1. OsmAnd is a free and open-source mobile maps app for both Android and iOS (based on OpenStreetMap data).
  2. Maps (F Droid) uses OpenStreetMap data (offline).
  3. Maps.Me is another option that is free on both Android and iOS, but there is a fair amount of data collection with this alternative, as explained in their privacy policy.
  4. MapHub is also based on OpenStreeMap data and it does not collect locations or user IP addresses.
Note: Waze is not an “alternative” as it is now owned by Google.

Google Play Store alternative

Currently the best Google Play Store alternative is to use F-Droid and then go through the Yalp store. As explained on the official site, F-Droid is an installable catalog of FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) applications for the Android platform.
After you have installed F-Droid, you can then download the Yalp store APK, which allows you to download apps from the Google Play Store directly as APK files.
📷The Yalp Store is a good alternative to the Google Play Store.
See the F-Droid website or the official GitHub page for more info. Other alternatives to the Google Play Store include:

Google Chrome OS alternative

Want to ditch the Chromebook and Chrome OS? Here are a few alternatives:
  1. Linux – Of course, Linux is arguably the best alternative, being a free, open-source operating system with lots of different flavors. With some adjustments, Linux Ubuntu can be run on Chromebooks.
  2. Tails – Tails is a free, privacy-focused operating system based on Linux that routes all traffic through the Tor network.
  3. QubesOS – Recommended by Snowden, free, and also open source.
Of course, the other two big operating system alternatives are Windows and Apple’s operating system for MacBooks – Mac OS. Windows, particularly Windows 10, is a very bad option for privacy. While slightly better, Apple also collects user data and has partnered with the NSA) for surveillance.

Android alternatives

The biggest alternative to Android is iOS from Apple. But we’ll skip over that for reasons already mentioned. Here are a few Android OS alternatives:
  1. LineageOS – A free and open-source operating system for phones and tablets based on Android.
  2. Ubuntu Touch – A mobile version of the Ubuntu operating system.
  3. Plasma Mobile – An open source, Linux-based operating system with active development.
  4. Sailfish OS – Another open source, Linux-based mobile OS.
  5. Replicant – A fully free Android distribution with an emphasis on freedom, privacy, and security.
  6. /e/ – This is another open source project with a focus on privacy and security.
Purism is also working on a privacy-focused mobile phone called the Librem 5. It is in production, but not yet available (estimated Q3 2019).

Google Hangouts alternatives

Here are some alternatives to Google Hangouts:
  1. Wire – A great all-around secure messenger, video, and chat app, but somewhat limited on the number of people who can chat together in a group conversation via voice or video.
  2. Signal – A good secure messenger platform from Open Whisper Systems.
  3. Telegram – A longtime secure messenger app, formerly based in Russia, now in Dubai.
  4. Riot – A privacy-focused encrypted chat service that is also open source.

Google Domains alternative

Google Domains is a domain registration service. Here are a few alternatives:
  1. Namecheap – I like Namecheap because all domain purchases now come with free WhoisGuard protection for life, which protects your contact information from third parties. Namecheap also accepts Bitcoin and offers domain registration, hosting, email, SSL certs, and a variety of other products.
  2. Njalla – Njalla is a privacy-focused domain registration service based in Nevis. They offer hosting options, too, and also accept cryptocurrency payments.
  3. OrangeWebsite – OrangeWebsite offers anonymous domain registration services and also accepts cryptocurrency payments, based in Iceland.

Other Google alternatives

Here more alternatives for various Google products:
Google forms alternativeJotForm is a free online form builder.
Google Keep alternative – Below are a few different Google Keep alternatives:
Google Fonts alternative – Many websites load Google fonts through Google APIs, but that’s not necessary. One alternative to this is to use Font Squirrel, which has a large selection of both Google and non-Google fonts which are free to download and use.
Google Voice alternativeJMP.chat (both free and paid)
G Suite alternativeZoho is probably the best option
Google Firebase alternativeKuzzle (free and open source)
Google Blogger alternativesWordPress, Medium, and Ghost are all good options.

I made my first goods purchase at a web store with Monero!

I've been slowly falling in love with Monero more and more ever since I first learned about it about 6 months ago, and have just been itching to just start using it for real life purchases without going out of my way for it. Note: I have my hardware wallet set for larger amounts I HODL, and a smaller amount I have set up with both my desktop client as well as cake wallet.
Low and behold... I found a shop that accepted "bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies" as a method of payment, and Monero was on the list! And I gotta tell ya, it was a smooth, wonderful experience.
All the information was right there on the order form, ready for me to copy the address or scan the QR. I pop open my cake wallet, scan the QR, and amount and address is all filled out. I just hit send (and confirm)... and I can monitor the transaction a link generated for https://www.coinpayments.net/
After proper confirmations, the coinpayments.net page updates to reflect that status quickly after it shows on my local node, and the store I ordered from sends an automated e-mail showing receipt of payment. SWEET! badda bing, badda boom!
And in the future I know I can just hit send, and expect a confirmation e-mail in a few minutes while resting assured I have a means to look into it if something goes wrong.
This real life experience just really jazzed me up, getting a taste of what until now I had only been doing in my head.

THE ONLY THING:

https://www.coinpayments.net/ has a directory of stores that take Monero, which the store I purchased from uses, but that store isn't listed in the directory at all. I'm wondering if how many stores are taking Monero that aren't listed anywhere. I only happened across this store by chance!

Accepting Bitcoin as an artist

Are there any seller outlets ala eBay or Etsy that is a marketplace of sorts for makers and artists to accept Bitcoin readily or is small sales like that still very p2p on classified sections of other sites? I'd sell art prints, pins, stickers, things like that.
What are things to look out for in this space as someone trying to sell good in small quantities?
There's probably other questions along this train I haven't considered, but this is a start for discussion, thank you!
I'm set up w a wallet(s) already and binging Antonopolous, so I'm a couple steps into the ecosystem.

How are the unbanked supposed to be their own banks without banks?

How is anyone expected to get “away from the system” with cryptocurrency? Let’s say Joe Bitcoin is moving out of his parents house and wants to use only Bitcoin. He’s never had a checking account. His parents bought him some bitcoin for Christmas or whatever.
He applies for work that he’s well qualified for. He insists he be paid in bitcoin. Eventually the payroll department says they can use some third party system but it’s going to require some paperwork because of volatility and accountability. Can’t have Joe saying he was underpaid because a crash happened after payroll was processed.
So, there we go. He has his job and is paid in bitcoin. Let’s look at apartments. There’s a decent one he can easily afford. Time to pay first/last/security. Does the management take bitcoin? No. And they don’t want to. Stop talking, Joe. They’ll require a check or money order.
Fuming, Joe looks up a bitcoin money order service. Plenty to buy bitcoin with a money order, but Amscott doesn’t seem to let you buy them. Localbitcoin comes to the rescue, as someone will purchase the money order for him for a 20% mark up. As long as Joe doesn’t have to use a lousy bank. It takes days to get done, but Joe drops off the money order to the management and moves in. “Make sure you have the power transferred to your name or it will be disconnected,” they tell him.
Joe fires up his laptop and visits the power company website. Hmm. They don’t take bitcoin. He tries another... oh. There’s only one power company. They want a deposit online via checking or savings account. Joe has a brain storm. He goes back to LBC and finds someone willing to buy from him for cash... less 15%. But this will work! Joe will give the cash to his parents and put their name on the account. He’ll just give them the cash each month. They try to talk to him about it but at least he’s not in their house anymore.
Now for internet access. Oh. Not accepting Bitcoin. Ring ring, hi mom? Yeah, same thing. Thanks!
Man, Joe has worked up an appetite. Time for food. He goes to that nice counterculture coffee shop. Oddly, they don’t take bitcoin either. But no worries, he now has his handy bitcoin ATM card. Sure, it still pays the store in filthy statist fiat, but it’s not Joe doing it.
Insufficient funds? He just put .05 btc on it. What—- oh. Some whale unloaded. He’s now short a few dollars... err... satoshis! That’s okay, he will just transfer more. He pulls up his app, logs in, waits for the 2FA to authenticate, and moves .01 btc from his hot wallet to his debit card. Hmm. How much for the transfer fee? He needs this quick. There’s a line forming. People are angry. “Will you be paying?” The cashier asks. Yes, yes, just one moment. He decides on a .005 btc fee. It’s half the transfer amount but it should get done, right?
Minutes later Joe is asked to step aside until he’s ready to pay. Twenty minutes later, the funds are moved. He even has two confirmations. He returns to the line, puts in his order again, pays, but doesn’t add a tip on the card. Instead he reaches into his wallet, pulls out one of several QR code stickers and drops it in the tip jar. He winks at the pretty cashier, having given her a pretty nice tip. She sighs, retrieves it from the jar, and throws it away. “That’s not a trash can,” she tells him. He silently rages. That fucking bitch. How dare she.
“Move it along, pal” says a man in line behind him. “Cheese sandwich, please,” he asks the cashier. “$4.25,” she tells him. The man pulls out his phone, taps it on the card reader, and instantly receives a “bing” of happiness.
Joe looks at the man in utter disgust. “Fucking statist thug,” he thinks to himself. “Dumb bitch,” he says in his head about the cashier. He’ll have to ask to get that out of the trash and then lecture her. He doesn’t even have time for that, and now he has to.
Joe gets an alert on his phone. Bitcoin prices just dropped $300. He hopes his paycheck hadn’t been processed yet.
That’s how.

36mm Ballon Bleu de Cartier Ronda Quartz w/White MOP Dial (V6 Factory) from Chazingtime

Hi Everyone! I'm so excited to post what everyone needs right now (j/k) : A watch review, and a very nice one at that!
I've been on a serious Cartier jewelry kick for the past year or so and I've fallen in love with the Ballon Bleu. This is my second rep watch purchase (the first being a 31 mm Rolex DateJust w/a 2816 movement in 2015 that's still going great). Unfortunately I was a bit thirsty and being cheap during a DH Gate binge that I purchased what I thought was a decent one in December via DHL and got a complete shitter for $93! I took pics of it and immediately shipped it back via USPS Priority Mail International ($31) for a full refund ($126), which I received two weeks later.
I totally forgot that I'm a longtime member of RWI and realized that I could have gotten a much better watch for only $100 more. I checked the Trusted Dealers (TD) list and saw that Chazingtime and PureTime had the watch I wanted, a Ronda Quartz, because I didn't want to get it serviced like my DateJust rep. I chose 36 mm size because I'm tall and wanted something bigger than my Rolex.
It was a LONG and arduous process, but I'm glad to finally have it.
Seller: Chazingtime
Item: Ballon Bleu de Cartier watch, 36mm stainless steel bracelet with white mother-of-pearl (MOP) dial from V6 Factory.
Price: $198 USD.
Payment Method Used: Bank Wire. TD also accepts PayPal for established customers and WU.
Price of Shipping: $35 to the USA.
Order Timeline (I'm having a near-anxiety flashback just thinking about this):
Seller Communication and Service-10/10
I tried to use PP but Ken immediately messaged to apologize and tell me that he only accepts it from established customers who have bought several watches from him. He gave me a really nice discount to use WU. I attempted to use it, but discovered that I'm banned from WU for some inexplicable reason (but I think it's because I have a federal security clearance for work, but I really believe that I've bought so many rep bags, hair extensions, and jewelry over the past dozen years that I got myself flagged). *face palm*
I then messaged him to tell him that I was banned from using WU, so he immediately replied with his SWIFT code to have a wire transfer initiated, again with a nice discount for my trouble.
I love how Ken was sooo responsive to my messages. I emailed him at 2:15 am EST and he replied immediately with the QC photos even though he was swamped with fulfilling new and established orders after the holiday and factory shutdown. I'd most definitely purchase from him again.
Photos:
Quality - 10/10
The watch is pretty well made. The Sapphire crystal glass is thick and is literally scratch proof. The blue cabochon crown is correct, easy to pull out and set the time, and the loop that surrounds it does not gap like other reps I've seen. The dial markings are clear, the CARTIER font is properly inked and spaced and, since it's quartz movement, there's no winding needed. I was really confused about the bracelet clasp; I had to watch YT videos until I got the hang of it!
Accuracy - 10/10
This watch is EVERYTHING! It came fully branded and tagged, has a nice "heft" to it, and looks incredible. It has the exact markings as the authentic, and I wouldn't hesitate to wear it in a Cartier store. Unfortunately, there aren't many auth white MOP dials to compare this one to; however, I've seen a lot of pink MOP dials on Google. I actually prefer the pink MOP but the RWI guys say that the pink MOP reps aren't 100% to the authentic and are calloutable by those who know Cartier. I think the white MOP is called silver opaline, but I'm not 100% sure of it and I love this version. I've even scanned the QC and barcode that were attached to the bracelet and they took me to the leather band version on the Cartier website!
Satisfaction - 10/10
Aside from waiting nearly two months for it, I'm beyond satisfied with this gem. I've also not taken it off; I've even showered and slept in i! I'm home-bound due to my workplace shutting down, so I've got to wear it somewhere!
I could have easily have worn it as a dangle, but decided not to because of the dial size and weight; I didn't want to scratch or ding it. I took it to my non-judgmental (because he and his sons repair my rep Rolex without judgment) nonagenarian watchmaker in town and he removed one link and chided me to hold on to that link and charged me only $10. It now fits pretty snug on my 7.5 inch wrist but I actually prefer it this way. (I can fit one finger under the bracelet, so it's not too tight.)
Lessons Learned: I know that I would have had a much better experience had I planned my purchase sooner and not wasted time with DH Gate. I also would have received my watch within the week had I been able to use WU or PP. The entire bank wire process really wore me out and extended the processing time. I learned from RWI and RepTime that some of the TDs' credit card processing software is prone to hacking and that Bitcoin or using TransferWise or Xoom are safer options for TDs who won't accept PP.
Anyway, enjoy and let me know if you have any questions. 11/10 will recommend! :)

huge list of google alternatives tutorial for those people who respects their privacy

Getting a bit overwhelmed with the coronapocalypse.

First off, I'm sorry if this post is off-topic or inappropriate here, but I like the blog and enjoy lurking in this community.
I don't really want to start a conversation. At least, it's not my goal. Also, please know I'm not going to do anything rash. I just want to get these thoughts off my chest (more accurately, out of my head), and you guys here are the kind of people I'd want reading them. I don't need a response, or even an upvote. It's enough knowing someone will read it.
I'm not asking for help.
I'm not exactly sure what any of us, individually, can really do right now anyway. We aren't in control now, and that's sobering and terrifying.
If you want to help me, just try to influence things in your microcosm for good. Be kind and help your family, friends, and neighbors.
[Also, putting it out there ahead of time - feel free to look at my post history and decide that I'm not a good person. I'm fine with that, but know this is my troll/shitpost/inappropriate-use Reddit account. And it's my only Reddit account.]
I'm not a fan of social media. I like real people in the real world and avoid this sort of thing. Since that option been taken away, here I am.
That all being said, here is my rant:

This whole coronapocalypse/covidtastrophe/viriigeddon/end times is getting me down.

In "normal" times, I'd just drop some acid, and in the psychedelic state, I'd watch the news... see the squabbling of the US political parties (or any countries political parties), the other straight-up nonsense that passes as "news", shrieking hyperbolic hysterics, ridiculous posturing from talking heads, the stupid celebrities.... and I'd just laugh. The whole outside world would seem so disconnected with 'true reality' — all so 'alien' — and my only reasonable way to respond to it is with amusement and laughter. Such a great feeling, feeling being connected to something deeper.
At least, it was great, the news was always so ridiculous and FAKE, until now. Now it's serious, it's real, and there is no time for that kind of distraction.
Before I rant and ramble on, I need to say that I'm essentially the most grounded, most resilient, and most unfazed person out there, a goddamn rock no matter what supposed emergency is happening outside. A bit of a dick maybe, a bit of Floridaman, but not neurotic, and never one to panic.
I'm the stereotypical "prepper" dude, the macho asshole, proud redneck, and I've faced years of snide remarks, derision, maybe even simple eye rolling from my "liberal" "hippie" 'friends'. No offense to you guys.
I've got my "arsenal", the details of which I don't want to go public with. I've been training for our next civil war, like all the other paramilitary militia douchbags. I've got two years worth of MRE's in the pantry. I had my 250 rolls of toilet paper in the supply closet, from way before the current panic buying.
I've got my own private pharmacy (that that I regularly cycle expiring drugs out of) that practically meets the WHO definition of a functioning health system. I've got the majority of WHO Model List of Essential Medicines stocked, many acquired at great personal risk. Also, I don't know how to use a lot of it, but I've got surgical equipment, an external infusion pump, an oxygen generator, and even more stuff I'll probably never use.
I always joked that when the SHTF and it's TEOTWAWKI, the first thing I'd look to acquire would be a friendship with an actual doctor. The second would be a farmer friend - someone who doesn't kill off plants like I do.
Turns out that whole worldview was naive. None of my expected scenarios have come to fruition. I wasted my a lot of my time, and a decent amount of money.
So now, I'm just sad, and I'm scared.

I've been sick now - for a week.

I'm apparently one of 1,200 people still waiting for my test results (for more than four days now) after being roughly nose swabbed and throat scraped by a military medic. A very cute military medic girl, mind you, but still, a girl in a moonsuit, who seemed way more frightened than me.
I'm now under quarantine, at least through the 29th, regardless of what the test result turns out to be.
Turns out the test results won't even matter. COVID or no COVID, you get told to quarantine yourself, and call '911' if you stop breathing, informing them of your test status. It's like a bad joke.
We've got the National Guard deployed, literally right outside here. The military is building a field hospital at my local airport to handle "mass casualties". We've got 100 confirmed virus cases in my county alone and two days ago a poor man just died just a few miles east of me.

It's begun.

I'm not a young man, unlike most of you kids online today. Luckily though, I already work from home, for a startup, so there is not any change in routine work for me.
My biggest concern is for my elderly (and diabetic) mother. She is dependent on me for her care. I don't even know if I'm sick (Corona-sick, that is), and I sure don't want to get her sick. Hospitals here are on the verge of being overwhelmed. What if something happens? Even if I could get her to one, would it be any safer than treating her myself at home?
At this point, if the worst happens, it's looking like I'm going to have to bury her, by myself, in our backyard.
We can't even have a gathering of more than 10 people to have a proper funeral.
Oh, on top of all that, I'm apparently not getting a paycheck tomorrow. This is not the fault of anyone. I could hear my boss choking back tears. I'm going to keep working anyway, because what else can I do?
Now, with all this doom and gloom, I did what a lot of stressed out people with poor coping skills do: I called up my long-time reliable plug (drug dealer, for you normies), justifying my "final" relapse.
Of course, he doesn't have shit for me, but he is selling face masks. No deliveries either - he's shut up at home too. If I want his overpriced masks, he accepts Bitcoin now, and he'll push my purchase through his mail slot. I'd need to act fast, apparently, because he was taping plastic sheeting up over all the doors and windows. Seems the mail slot will soon be unavailable.
It's all like scenes from a bad movie outside.
I thought about going back to the Catholic Church, breaking down, confessing forty years of sins, but the Churches have all closed their doors. I waited too long, apparently. It's too late even for absolution.
My whole life has been peppered with threats of the apocalypse. We've been warned about the Reds and their atom bomb, then those commie's got the hydrogen bomb, and then we had Castro with his shitty little missiles - still tipped with nukes. I survived the Great Recycling of 1997 and the Hale-Bopp UFO. I think it was all supposed to end again, but in 1999. Then Y2K was it. Then 2012. Then killer asteroids - or are they actually meteors? Alien invaders maybe, with ray guns and particle beams. Jesus' Second Coming, the prophecies of Revelation. Maybe the Baptist's and Pentecostal's would get their Rapture? Or more likely Kurzweil and his Singularity - or should we call it Skynet? Perhaps genetic modifications gone wrong? Or some time travel mishap... paradoxes... a fatal causality trap. Supervolcano eruption: Yellowstone goes boom! Cobalt Thorium G doomsday devices. Global crop failures and subsequent mass starvation. Perhaps the boring Red v. Blue Civil War scenario I'd been running around in the woods "practicing" for?
Nope. All fucking bullshit.
Seems like we are all going to die looking out our windows, watching the sun shining, alone and quarantined, binge-watching the pandemic movie marathon on Netflix.
When I'm gone, my friendly neighbors will get to split up my stock of MRE's. I hope the nice old lady at the end of the block gets first dibs on my toilet paper stash.
This isn't the end times we were promised at all.
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but with a whimper.
I just want everything to be OK.

I have practiced psychic ability. Then I got possessed by a demon. Am I going to Hell? Will Jesus forgive me? Do I need an exorcism? [u/iknj79480]

When I was 13 I made a friend who was psychic and he helped me develop my psychic ability. I did not know it was Satanic at the time, I just thought it was really cool to have this power. I learned how to hear (or rather sense) thoughts, predict future outcomes, guess correct answers on multiple choice tests, and worst of all, actually manipulate people and their decisions with my mind by concentrating on them. I was also able to make someone drop something or trip and fall by concentrating on him. I also learned to use the Law of Attraction, visualizing something to make it happen. Then when I was 14 I learned it was demonic, partially repented, cut ties with my friend, and stopped trying to develop this power further. But it was already too late, I had already opened my mind to the power and often found myself using it subconsciously. I would often get visions or at least would sense the future. And when asking someone of a favor my mind would subconsciously open up to the other person’s mind to try to influence him. Throughout the years I would use this ability when it was convenient for me. I used mind control magic to talk a police officer out of giving me an alcohol possession ticket in college. I used Law of Attraction to become an Internet celebrity making $10,000/month in college. I used psychic ability to determine that Bitcoin and Ethereum would go way up in 2016, so I invested thousands of dollars into them. And multiplied my investment almost 10-fold. I would often use it when I got a health problem to see the future and determine if it would go away. I used magic to heal myself of tinnitus, ringing in the ears. Then 2 years ago I lose my income (Internet business) because I went on a long drug binge and neglected my work. When I sobered up I got incredibly distressed and turned to my psychic power to see into the future whether or not I would be able to regain my income. My power told me that I would not. That’s when I got suicidal and basically cast a death spell on myself. I was possessed with a very strong desire to die, had a lot of psychic power, but lacked the balls to physically kill myself. Thus I got possessed by a demon. I heard God say “Depart from me”. That was when He stopped protecting me from demons. Then all Hell broke loose. I felt a flash in my mind, felt a large part of my mind, memories, and emotions get erased, and felt myself start burning. Then I got a red aura around me, my power magnified, I was filled with intense hatred, had a strong desire to end the world, and I actually watched the world end in nuclear war on TV. Then apparently God intervened and fixed all the damage. Throughout the whole experience I was certain that I was was dying and was on my way to Hell. I felt like I was partially in Hell already. I eventually recovered from this, but it took a trip to the mental hospital and a lot of medication. I still have severe brain damage from the demonic incident. My IQ dropped a lot, my emotions are dulled down, and a lot of my memories have been erased. It feels like I have a hole in my mind. Thankfully my psychic ability was mostly burned out of me, though I still used it and a few simple healing spells even after the possession. But recently I have repented of drugs and psychic ability, and have turned to Jesus. I have accepted Him as my Lord and Savior. Am I saved? Or am I beyond salvation because of what happened? Do I need an exorcism?

[UPDATED] It’s Time to Get Real: Stop Relying on Third Parties to Protect You & Your Funds. You are responsible for your security.

Eight months ago ETH was ~$13, phishing sites were everywhere, and too many people were losing ETH.
Today ETH is ~$260, Bitcoin bloggers, low-entropy phrases, and Teamviewer hacks are (not quite) everywhere, but getting more popular, and too many people are losing ETH.

How can you protect yourself?

  1. Get yourself a Ledger or Trezor Hardware wallet. They are less than 0.5 ETH now and a variety of wallets support them. There is really, really no excuse. https://www.ledgerwallet.com & https://shop.trezor.io/
  2. If you don't want one of these nifty devices, use cold storage for a majority of your savings. Please. Pretty please.
  3. Bookmark your crypto sites. Use those bookmarks and only those.
  4. Turn on 2FA for everything. Go do it. Right now. Quit your excuses. Choose Google Authenticator over Authy. Don't use your phone number. Then, make sure your phone number is NOT tied to your Google account (look in privacy settings). Turns out, you and your BFF Mr. Hacker can "recover" access to your account via that number, completely destroying the point of 2FA. PS: Don't forget to cold-storage your backup words for these 2FA things. It's a huge pain when your phone goes for a swim and your entire life is 2FA'd. 😊
  5. Do not use cloud storage (Dropbox, Drive, iCloud) for storing your keys :(Now your keys would only be protected by your cloud storage password. Also, see #4.
  6. For Token Sales: do not trust any address except the one posted on the official site. Bookmark the URL before the sale, get the address from the URL from your bookmark at time of purchase. Do not trust any other source (especially a random bot on Slack). PS: When are token sales going to start using ENS names?
  7. Double check the URL. Check it. Then, check it again right before entering any information. This is especially important for any sites that require usernames, passwords, email addresses, private keys, and any other personal information. SSL certs do not mean a site is trustworthy, just that they bought an SSL cert. Not sure about the correct URL? Cross reference Reddit, Twitter, Github, Slack and wherever else the project hangs out.
  8. Triple check Github URLs. These are much easier to fake and much easier to miss. Instead of downloading from that random URL on reddit, seek out the URL on your own. Following the developers of these repos on Twitter, friending them on reddit (lol...but seriously it's nice because their name will be orange), or starring said repos on Github helps.
  9. Always verify that the site you landed on is legit. Especially if you are about to entire your private key or download an application. What is legit? A service that people have used for a decent period of time with good results. If the URL has been registered in the last week or the site "just launched", err on the side of caution and avoid it for a while.
  10. Google the service name + "scam" or "reviews". Scam sites rarely last long. Value real comments by real people over a random blog. Value a collection of information over a single source. Understand that legit services will likely have a mix of positive and negative reviews over a long period of time. Scam sites typically have no one talking about them, everyone yelling about how they got robbed, or the most perfect reviews ever. The latter one is just as red of a flag as the first one.
  11. Don't ever run remote-access software (e.g. TeamViewer) ever...but especially not on a computer with keys on them. The number of security holes in these programs is atrocious. You 2FA your entire life, but then let a single string of characters give someone access to your entire computer & every account. 😱
  12. Don’t click any link regarding anything crypto, money, banking, or a service like Dropbox / Google Drive / Gmail in any email ever. And if the scammy clickbait was simply too irresistible for you, don’t enter any information on the page.
  13. Install an adblocker that actually turns off Google/Bing Ads. I recommend going with uBlock Orgin. If you are already using Adblock Plus, it does not hide Google Ads from you. Go into your Adblock Plus settings and uncheck the box that says “Allow some non-intrusive advertising”.
  14. Don’t click on advertisements. With or without an adblocker, you should never, ever click on advertisements.
  15. If you have accidentally visited or typed a malicious site, clean out your recent history and autocomplete. This will prevent you from typing kra… and having it autocomplete to the malicious krakken.com.
  16. No one is giving you free or discounted ETH. Even for completing a survey.
  17. The guys who just finish their token sale don't want to sell you tokens via Slack DM. Neither does that smokin' hot 125px x 125px avatar.
  18. Lastly: use your brain. Think for a moment. Don't assume, ask. Don't blindly follow, question. If something doesn't seem right...if you feel like the luckiest fucker on Earth...or if you find yourself asking, "I wonder why I haven't seen this on reddit yet", there is likely a reason. 👍

A note about Ethereum Chamber scam yesterday

As some of you are aware, there was a scam site yesterday that was a clone of MyEtherWallet.com, but red. I was alerted to it via a Facebook message ~5am from a diligent user. That is one of 3 messages I received about it before our tweet went up at 1pm, not including the 5 from our internal team (thank goodness someone realizes our site isn't red!)
Since that site has come to light, a number of folks have mentioned things like, "Oh yeah I saw it, I figured you guys were just rebranding" or "Oh weird. Yeah I figured it was a scam."
This site, which I thought was only a paid CoinTelgraph blurb at the time, was actually on a large number of Bitcoin blogs: podcasts, blogs, news sites, Twitter, the works.
How does this happen? How do a number of bloggers promote a direct (red) clone of MEW, people see it, and no one says anything? (The fact that all these bloggers & "news" organizations gleefully accepted money from a wallet site without Googling "ether wallet" or "Name of the Site" is a far too angry and long rant, but should not go unnoticed.)
Anyways!

While the above post is all about the steps you should take to protect yourself, there is another one that is even more important:

Look out for one another

Scammers thrive because they have victims -- because they know they can throw a stupid website out there and people will click it. Stop thinking, "Well, they shouldn't have clicked it" and start doing what you can to prevent people from making a mistake that will cost them their hard-earned coins.
  • If you notice something looks like MEW, say "Hey, that looks like a clone of MEW! I wonder if they've seen it?"
  • If you think that Github URL looks weird but you don't have the time to check, throw a "hey u sure thats rite url?" up there.
  • If that reddit post is an unheard of wallet, leave a comment and report it with a "??????????" in the report reason.
  • If the Token Sale you are participating it doesn't tell you explicitly when & where their address will be posted, ask them, in public, over and over again. If its not at least 24 hours before the Token Sale, question that choice, in public, over and over again.
  • Remind people about best practices! If you've been visiting /ethereum for more than 3 months, you have 3 months on 25% of the people here. You are a bloody expert now. Time to put on your big boy pants:
  • "@nooboob Remember the address will be posted on their website, NOT in this Slack."
  • "It looks like this is an okay link, but it's not a good idea to click or install things from a random user on reddit. It could be malware."
There needs to be more due diligence everywhere, but this is easier diligence than most. It requires no advance knowledge or skills. You don't even have to be able to write good. Stay aware, trust your gut, ask more questions, trust the internet less, and google the fuck out of everything.
Stay safe out there. 💖

Does anyone else here think this is possible?

Does anyone else here think that with the incoming recession and finalcial crisis we are about to experience, where businesses stock prices and profitability will be smashed, that companies will look for any way they can find to increase revenue. Including accepting bitcoin.
Since bitcoin became well known times have been good for businesses, it was boom time, the world was binging on debt and profits were sky high. There was no need to accept something like bitcoin.
But as times get tougher companies are going to be looking to squeeze every cent out of consumers to avoid having to restructure and cut costs. The first point of call will be to let all those bitcoin millionaires spend their money.
Not only that but another banking crisis will cause outages for payments meaning no card sales and ATM withdrawal restrictions will leave consumers with no cash to spend. If cards arnt working and cash is massively restricted its either accept bitcoin or go out of business.
I have a feeling that this coming recession will boost bitcoin merchant acceptance massively..

Am I the only one having a hard time imagining why the global banking system would accept XRP as their new overlord?

First off, those of us who have been around awhile know the context: XRP is premined and hoarded by the founders. XRP seems to be not only a private/permissioned technology, but also appears to be centralized in the sense that Ripple Labs owns and controls all of the consensus participating nodes.
So I'm trying to figure out the mindset of XRP investors (and I know there are some here in this forum). Do they really think that the global banking system is just going to straight up adopt the example public Ripple XRP network as their new "Swift system" (as people keep claiming)? Here are some thoughts:
I have no doubt that Ripple is a good and interesting private/permissioned blockchain-ish technology and that banks may very well use it, just like they may use lots of other private/permissioned technologies like EEA for example. This is not an argument against private DLT implementations. It's an argument against a private DLT implementation that appears to have a public cryptographic token of economic value superfluously attached to it and aggressively speculatively pumped. I'm just having a very hard time understanding what XRP token investors are thinking because it sure seems like it's nothing more than speculative bubble on an asset that doesn't really have a role in the future system that XRP token holders are describing/imagining.
I welcome any comments telling me how I'm right or wrong. Please don't lambast me.
EDIT: Looks like this article came to a similar conclusion:

Afternoon all,
And a happy afternoon it is, what with Bitcoin soaring!
Reminds me of my trip back in 2017.
I bought 1 BTC for $4.7k and set off to 20 countries for 12 months all on that 1 coin.
Wild ride. Met John McAfee and asked him about all the scams he's running. Asked Vitalik Buterin about life on mars. Got arrested by the police in Cairo. Slept under a bridge after my couchsurfing host bailed. A real roller coaster from start to finish.
Rode it to $20k in early 2018 before riding it back down to $5k.
Well, as promised, I finished writing the book about it. Or at least half the book.
Stolen Wallets: And Where to Buy Them
Here's the back cover blurb:
-------------------------------------
What's in your wallet?
You okay with a stranger poking through it? I'm not. Never in a million. My wallet is my private little hell. Receipts for things I can't afford and a picture of an ex I still miss. But there I was, standing in a grubby back alley in Bangkok. Wallets that once belonged to other people -- scattered on a table in front of me: Crocodile skin Gucci, scuffed generic brown leather, even a DIY duct-tape wallet -- each and every single one stolen. Curiosity killed my ethics. I picked one up. It was full. Not with money, of course, but with ...
These are the stories of my travels.
Before all this I was a desk jockey. Putting in my 9-to-5. Binge-watching Netflix alone. Then I bought 1 bitcoin -- and it started to skyrocket. Little did I know it was my golden ticket. From China to Europe. 20 countries, 12 months, and my skyrocketing bitcoin. A red carpet to a world of fast money, greed, hype, hope and corruption. Wild crypto parties. Fake tits on fake friends. Stacks of counterfeit money. Stolen wallets. Then the bubble popped -- and the world of the newly rich began burning down around me.
-----------------------------
It's a short book. 40 something pages. It's the first half of the whole story. That's why it's only $5.50 for the paperback on Amazon -- that's the lowest Amazon let's me go (break even).
I figured it's best to test the waters first. I'm not the best writer. No Pulitzer prize gathering dust on a mantel.
Putting together this first half took months of writing, re-writing, and drinking until the words looked right.
Not much more to say besides posting the "1st chapter" (It's more of a logbook entry) down below and a link to Amazon.

-------------------------------------
Logbook. Entry 1.
T minus 2 days to launch.
On the black market…
My liver is worth: 55.78 bitcoins.
One of my kidneys: 16.41 bitcoins (if sold in China) and 4.11 bitcoins (if sold in India).
My skeleton: 0.99 Bitcoins -- spooky cheap.
My dick? Hm. I can’t seem to find a reliable source for black market cocks.
That’s not good.
Listen, say I get kidnapped -- which is entirely possible where I’m going. Then, after a few days of torture, the kidnappers say: “Deeply sorry about this, young man, but since no one came through with your ransom we’ll need to go ahead and harvest one of your major organs -- have a preference?”
If the black market ran rife with naughty bits -- and my drinking habits still required a functioning liver -- I’d go ahead and have them lop off my cock.
*sigh*
Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to my brain at 2 o’clock in the morning. I can’t stop thinking. I can’t stop worrying. In a few very short days I fly away. Away from my family, my friends, the friendly neighborhood dog I pet on my way to work (Good old Charlie, with his lopsided ears and robber-scaring bark). In short -- away from everything I know. Away from home.
And for what?
To travel around the world … on 1 bitcoin.
  1. Beijing -- Bitcoin is banned. And I’m going during military prep for the 19th Congress of the Communist Party. Real solid timing on my part there.
  2. Shanghai -- China’s largest underground smuggling hub for opium, molly, cocaine, and black-tar heroin. Also -- I could be fined and jailed for jaywalking.
  3. Hong Kong -- I can buy a fake Rolex for $10, or a real one that ‘fell off the back of the truck’ for $1500. Do they accept Bitcoin?
  4. Burma (Myanmar)-- This is where shit hits the fan. There’s a genocide boiling in NorthWest Burma. The Army is herding minorities and burning their villages. I’ve heard BTC helps them escape.
  5. Cambodia -- Tourists are given the option to rent rocket launchers ... and blow up cows. Jesus Christ. Unreal. Are cryptocurrencies involved?
  6. Bangkok -- The sex trafficking capital of S.E. Asia. Massage parlors, ping-pong shows, and “happy endings.” Will this country be my happy ending? (Note to editor: delete that joke. I can do better).
  7. The Philippine’s -- “President Rodrigo Duterte urges citizens to shoot drug addicts in the streets.” He promised enough drug dealer bodies would be dumped in Manila Bay that fish there would grow fat from feeding on them. Does the same go for BTC traders?
  8. India -- Transplant tourism. The Red Market. Hearts, lungs, livers handed off for a digital wallet full of crypto -- none of which goes to the victims. Perhaps if I get desperate I’ll sell a kidney.
  9. Africa -- Not sure which country I’ll wind up in. Not sure if I’ll even make it. One bitcoin is not exactly a hefty sum. By this point I’ll be running out -- and that’s if the value of my single bitcoin hasn’t buried it’s two front teeth in the dirt.
  10. Europe -- who am I kidding? The odds of me arriving in Europe with my wallet in one hand and my dick in the other are as tiny as both those things.
The goal: 365 days. 12 months. 1 year… on 1 bitcoin. To survive I’ll need to couchsurf, eat cheap street food, and rely on the kindness of strangers -- cryptocurrency strangers.
If I accidentally trade my bitcoin for counterfeit money -- I’ll go to foreign prison. If I get food poisoning -- I’ll end up in a 3rd world hospital. If a couchsurfing host bails on me -- I’ll be sleeping under a bridge. If I trade my bitcoin in a non-public place -- I’ll get mugged. But if I trade in a public place I could be mistaken for a drug dealer -- and shot. In fact, I’ll need to make a supremely concentrated effort to not get jailed, mugged, stranded, or shot. Jesus, no wonder I can’t sleep. Why am I doing this?
A local Denny’s Diner.
All-American breakfast -- a weekend routine for my father.
“Bitcoin is not money.”
“Dad.”
“Bitcoin will never be money.”
“Dad.”
“And you should shave off your beard.”
“....It’s a good beard, dad.”
The waitress politely offers to refill his coffee. He waves her away.
“You’re mother keeps calling me. She used to never call me. I’ve worked hard to keep it that way. Now she’s calling me day and night. Worried sick.”
“She’s a good mom.”
“She’s a pain in the ass. You’re a pain in the ass. She calls me, telling me to talk you out of going, reading me headlines,” he continues while salting his eggs aggressively, “Jealous Gay Husband Uses Bitcoin to Hire Hitman. Sex trafficking on the Silk Road with Bitcoin. Terrorism on the rise with the rise of Bitcoin. I’d hang up but she’d call me back with ten more.”
“Not to worry, sheriff. I won’t be financing a revolution.”
“What will you be financing, hm? With this magic internet money?” He waves a breakfast sausage at the grocery store across the street. “Say I have a mind to go shopping. Fill the fridge. Put bread, butter, and beer on my table tonight. Think the teller will let me pay with your Facebook likes? Hm? Because that’s what they are. These bitcoins, these junkie frequent flier miles. About as useful as condoms to the Pope.”
I had to laugh at that one. “That’s the spirit, sheriff. That’s what I’ll be traveling to find out. What the hell I can finance. What can I buy with my magic internet money.”
“And how much of this fairy dust do you own?”
“One. I bought one Bitcoin.”
“And how big a hole did it burn in your wallet?”
“Four thousand, seven hundred dollars...and change.”
Dad’s not the type to bulge his eyes out in surprise. His is the clench of the jaw that markes his disapproval. “You could have put that money toward getting your shit together.”
I met his disapproval. “This is me getting my shit together.”
“That a fact? And how much is your one pedobuck worth today?” he says, scrutinizing me over his cup of coffee. Waiting. He used to be a great cop. It’s why I never could get away with anything as a kid. Still can’t.
I look away. “Four thousand two hundred.”
“Down five hundred bucks, already?”
“Yup.”
“In one week?”
“Something like that.”
Times like this. Right here. Times like this remind me of those unimaginative books where the author writes “and then he picked at his food.” What a terrible line. Overused. Unimaginative. But here I am ... picking at my food. No matter how old I get, dad’s disapproval will always be something special.
“You know what you might have done with that money? Hm?” He tosses his used napkin on his empty breakfast plate. “Gone to a barber. Shaved your beard.” Down went the last swig of his coffee. “Looked for another engineering job. Got another engineering job. Used that fancy university degree you’re still in debt for.”
“I’ve been trying.”
“Try harder. Get your shit together.”
“Sheriff, I -”
“Listen, my genius son, I will not bail you out. I will not let your mother bail you out. We do not have the money. What you are doing is a mistake. It will end in failure.”
“Sheriff-”
“I am not finished. You have never taken a trip remotely like this in your entire life.” He always had a remarkable way of raising his voice without actually raising his voice. “I will not be speaking ching-chong Chinese to some oriental dipshit deputy because you stuck your finger in someone’s else’s dumpling. Your mother will not fly out to Cambodia with a steaming bowl of chicken noodle soup because you ate tapeworm salad. And God forbid. God forbid you get taken, held for ransom, or sliced open.”
“I understand.”
“You do not understand.” He begins ticking off fingers. “If you get stranded. If you get imprisoned. If you get hospitalized. If someone steals your magic computer fairy dust. Nobody will bail you out. There will be no cavalry. You will be on your own. Alone.”
And now the silence. Silence like a large wave going out, giving you time to change your mind, time to rethink your life choices. Before the wave returns to knock your sandcastle out.
“No, Sheriff, I’m doing this.”
“Why?”
“To find out if bitcoin is money. If it has a future.”
“Unacceptable. Stick your nose in a book about it. Why do you want to go?”
“I’ve never done anything like this before. This’ll test me. Make me grow.”
“Pussy of a reason,” he growls. “Why are you going?”
“I don’t know. But I’ll find out.”
……….
….
After awhile he stands. “Remember.” He takes out his wallet. “You get on that plane --- and there won’t be no cavalry.” Withdraws a few crisp bills. Tosses them on the table. “And only money … is money.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let me know if you enjoyed it or not.
I could keep posting logbook entries? Or I could read it on Youtube. Post the whole book chapter by chapter. Not like Amazon needs the money, amiright?
And if it's no good, say that too. Saves me time since I won't need to write the rest.
